Bridge to Wealth U10 Boys Wolverines
Tournament Champs!
Congratulations to the hard working U10 Boys who fought their way to the winner’s circle in the Oshawa Kicks Frank Sobil Spring Classic.
Through high winds, low temperatures and freezing rain, these boys embodied teamwork and dug their cleats in. Mixing new players, returning players and A/P players, Coaches Mike Whiteman and Gerry Bourgoin worked the lines to ensure everyone had an opportunity to experience various positions on the field in keeping with long-term player development strategies.
Their first win was against Oshawa 4-1 with 4 different players finding the back of the net. Their second game against Northumberland United earned the goalie, Gavin C., a well-deserved shut out with a 3-0 final.
Sunday started at 8am facing Whitby Iroquois. The Wolverines fought back from a 2-0 deficit to post a 4-3 win.
Game Four would not end as well. Darlington Thunder needed to rack up points to ensure a place in the finals – they played very aggressively and clobbered our boys 7-2.
The Wolverines met Darlington again in the playoffs and were not going to entertain a repeat – they won the game, and the Champions title with a 3-2 victory. The winning goal was made possible with a beautiful run up the middle by Ashton L. passing off to Luke B. who cleared the left post by an inch to pocket the winner.
Blake W. took home MVP Honours buts admits the medal could hang around any of his teammates necks – this winning weekend was absolutely a team effort.
Three cheers for the frozen-solid parents who were tireless with their sideline applause and positive encouragement along with injured goalie Zane N. And a proud shout out to teammate Justin T. who missed the tournament to compete in Power Tumbling in Newfoundland at the Eastern Canadian Championships – he tumbled his way to a Gold medal!
Calling All Star Coaches!
Applications will soon be accepted for All Star coaching positions for Wolverines Teams for the 2013 Outdoor season. We need you! Our teams cannot run without the dedication of our volunteer coaches. The QWSC will provide the required training, tools and support for our volunteer coaches to give them and their players the best chance to develop, have fun and learn and grow in the sport. Please view the "Wolverine Teams" page under the "Competitive" tab for an application.
All Star teams begin once the House League starts. All Star teams generally practice once a week while continuing to play House League. All Star teams can enter our Cameron Memorial Tournament in August as well as other tournaments. It is a great introduction to the competitive program for both coaches and players. We especially hope to see All Star teams in age groups that do not currently have a rep team and they can be a combined age group if needed. (i.e. U13/14 competing as a U14 team)

U13 Girls Win ER Cup
Quarter-Finals on PK's
(July 19th, 2012) The Quinte West Soccer Club Deerhaven Farm & Garden U13 Girls Wolverines continued their quest for the East Region Soccer League Cup last Thursday with a quarter-final win on penalty kicks over the Ottawa Internationals.
The girls persevered on a hot day while playing on an even hotter turf field in Ottawa. Kaitlyn Gilbert tied the score for the Wolverines at 1-1 in the second half with a hard shot from deep in the corner that curled around the Ottawa keeper and found the back of the net.
The game proceeded to penalties at the end of regulation where the Wolverines won handily 3 goals to 1. Penalties were scored by Amy Frotten, Cayla Debattista and Camryn Towers with keeper Hayley Williams solid in net for the Wolverines deflecting a promising Ottawa shot over the crossbar.
This was the Wolverines second win in the single-elimination, summer-long ER Cup tournament. With the win, the Wolverines advance to the semi-finals to be played at home in Centennial Park on Sun Aug 26th against Ottawa South United Black. The finals are set for Sun Sept 16th.
U14 Girls Wolverines
Split 2
The U14 Girls Wolverines played 2 league games recently, splitting for a win and a loss. The girls played against a strong St. Lawrence United team from Brockville on Wed July 7th and ended up with an unfortunate 3-0 loss which was their first loss of the season. It wasn't for lack of effort however, as the girls had many chances around the net but just couldn't seem to capitalize on the rebounds or find the holes.
On Fri July 9th the girls travelled to Portland, north of Kingston for their second match of the week. The trip was well worth the drive as the Wolverines managed a 3-2 win with Makenna O'Neil scoring the opening goal on a breakaway pushed ahead by Julia Tees. Aly Morris scored the 2nd goal off a cross in front of the net from O'Neil and then O'Neil scored the third goal on a penalty kick. The girls played as a team through the heat and with only 1 sub and it took a whole team effort to pull off the win.
U11 Boys Wolverines Win Gold
in Peterborough
(June 16-17, 2012) The Quinte West U11 Wolverine Boys were undefeated this past weekend at the Peterborough soccer tournament! Our keeper Ethan Ohara had an impressive record of 4 shut outs in 5 games, and only 2 goals scored against him in the semi-finals against North Toronto. The final game against Pickering Power ended in a shoot out with Matt Logan and Chris Winter scoring the two goals that won the game. MVPs were awarded to Ethan Ohara (2), Kyle Neill, and Matthew Logan. Well done boys! Your parents and our sponsor Doctor Dempsey of Quinte Pediatrics are very proud of you!
U13 Girls Open Quest for
ER Cup With a Win

(June 17, 2012) The Quinte West Soccer Club Deerhaven Farm and Garden U13 Girls Wolverines opened their quest for the East Region Cup with a win this past weekend against Russell. The girls came out to a roaring start with Cayla Debattista tallying 2 quick strikes and Courtney Bolch adding a 3rd by the 15 minute mark of the first half.
Solid defensive play led by Amy Frotten (pictured above centre) kept the score at 3-0 by the half. When Frotten was sidelined due to a minor injury at the beginning of the second half, the rest of the "D" including Rosemary Minns, Lauren McGilvray, Marisa DiCresce and solid goal keeping by Hayley Williams kept the hard charging Russell team to a single tally for a final winning score of 3-1 for the Wolverines.
The East Region Cup is a summer-long single elimination tournament between all Level 3 teams and Level 4 teams that play in the East Region Soccer League. The ERSL includes teams from Quinte West to as far away as the greater Ottawa area. The Wolverines now advance to the next Cup round to be played in July. A win there will earn them a semi-final spot in August.
The girls were happy to get their first win of the season as their regular league record stands at 0-4 thus far, but with continued play such as that shown in their first Cup game their record is sure to improve! Special thanks to Trina Griffith and Katie Larry from the U12 Girls Wolverines for their help in this game and continued help throughout the season. Go Wolverines!
U11 Wolverines Girls Semi-Finalists
in Peterborough
(June 2-3, 2012) The U11 Girls Weaver Family Funeral Homes Wolverines recently travelled to Peterborough to play in the 22nd Annual Peterborough "Challenger Cup". This team of girls, having only played together in 1 official league game prior, came out of the weekend with an exhilarating Semi-Final finish in this very competitive tournament.
An amazing result for this brand new team coached by Tony Schick and Chad Buell. Certainly a sign of great things to come for this team!
Our first game was played against a very strong Peterborough Maroon team. Saving 24 shots on net, Lauren Callahan was named Player of the Game for saving all but 2 shots in this tournament opener. Although a 2-0 loss, the girls played incredibly as a team with strong play also from Hannah Bassett, Emily Wallis, Abby Shick and Leah Buell.
Game two saw us playing another strong team, the Oshawa Kicks, who later proceeded to the tournament finals. Down 2-0 near the end of the game, great chances came from Sarah Lajoie and Terah Drake to no avail. Extremely strong defence from Isabella Lombardi saw her named as Player of the Game for her extraordinary efforts. Equally strong 'D' came from Talia Gauthier during this hard fought and aggressive game.
Game three saw a commanding win from Quinte West vs the Peterborough White team which advanced our team to the Semi Finals. With a Final Score of 4-0, strong play came from Caylin Gracie who scored twice (and named Player of the Game), Makaela Bell, Rheanna Flynn, Sarah Lajoie and Kiera Sheppard.
Although defeated by Oshawa in the Semi Final game, the team played strong both ways and left the tournament with their heads held high.
This team is playing in memory of Lauren Weaver for the 2012 season and will wear the Pink Ribbon of Hope on their shirts with Lauren's initials. They certainly honoured the integrity and sportsmanship as demonstrated by Lauren during her short life throughout the tourney.
An outstanding result by a great group of up-and-coming soccer players. Go Wolverines!
